  • GET YOUR ENGINES GOING: WINTER STORM

PLEASE BE SAFE AND KEEP WARM.

As you know there will be at least 20 inches of snow in the Chicago Area. Go to the FEMA.gov for information on “what to have” at home. And this are the “warning” meanings that we see all the time at the tv or hear at the radio:

    “Winter Warnings”
As the winter weather season approaches, do you know what the various weather warnings and advisories mean?
WINTER STORM WATCH indicates that winter weather may affect your area.
WINTER STORM WARNING indicates that severe winter weather conditions are definitely on the way.
BLIZZARD WARNING indicates that snow and strong winds of at least 35 miles per hour combined will produce blinding
snow, near-zero visibility, deep drifts and life-threatening wind chill.
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY indicates winter weather conditions, with snowfall of between 3 to 6 inches, are
expected to cause significant inconveniences and may be hazardous, especially to motorists.
Knowing what these terms mean will help you better protect yourself and loved ones.

    have a safe storm!

  • All most 30…

Time flies… And is just amazing to look back for a couple of seconds and be grateful for the amazing stories, friends and moments that you have been part of. In a couple of days I will be celebrating 3 decades…

I need to give my special thanks to my beloved parents and sister, they are the basic element of my soul, they believed the idea of an International Doctor that could not only be a physician but an advocate for those in need.

My grandparents that open there knowledge and time to guide me in times of need, with my uncles and aunties that always encouraged me in my endeavors…

To my new family, that has been with me for all most 8 years, with energy and “444444’s”!

To my mentors, friends and patients near and far, that I have told the same crazy stories 100 times, I cherish you in my heart.

But specially to my lover, wife and friend, my only nuclear reactor, the reason of my mornings and special projects, whom always gives me the word of knowledge and motivation to aim higher…

All most happy birthday to me!

  • HE IS JUST A KID!!!!

I have an hypothetical case and I would like to know what is your feeling and best approach to solve it:

Imagine that you are living in X country without documents, you have been living there for at least 10 years, working and being part of society. Your kid, that you brought him/her here, doesn’t have documents too. He has been enrolled to the local school, he is now a teenager.

This week your kids started to feel bad, you contact his/her doctor, they run some test and the diagnosis is really critical, without continue medical treatment your kid will surely die.

The hospital, in a good position, agrees to treat your kid for a limited time, but they can’t compromise due to insurance problems in the long term management. You take a moment to reflect: 1) I’m in another country where I nearly understand the language 2) I don’t understand the healthcare system 3) I really don’t know where to get help.

You have a limited set of choices in order to help and save your kids life: 1) Go back to your home country 2) Try to find help in country X.

In the middle of this debate, your kid is being help and good samaritarians are trying hard to open new pathways.

    What would you do?

But the real polemic is: “Why this kid needs to suffer because of political problems? How can we help this kid that is in dragged from the parent’s decision to come to another country? Is it fair to let the kid be pushed away from the only real option to survive?

  • ARIZONA… A MIXT FEELING… IMMIGRATION?

I have a mix feeling for Arizona… I understand the importance of security… But what’s the limit? The solution for immigration is not going to extremes… First, we need to look at the reality: BOTH COUNTRIES ARE THE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM… Security, Health and Jobs are intrinsically united between them… UNILATERAL SOLUTIONS OF ANY PARTY will only result on problems…

  • LOOKING FOR A JOB…

Energetic bilingual pediatrician with ample experience in community settings and international experience in Public Health and Primary Care, searching for an enthusiastic opportunity to fulfill his dreams.

Having an holistic approach to the current Health Care system, understands the importance of building long lasting relationship with the families giving the best care possible to the children, as we know, they are the future.

Being trained in Latin America, the current trend of a physician that understands the culture and language of the Hispanic patients improves the outcomes and adherence of clinical management and quality of medical attention, giving an advantage of his previous experience.

Having worked for the Ministry of Health as the Liaison for the World Health Organization, Ilan has been exposed to the administrative workload, comprehending the importance of having a well build system with the emphasis of a team approach to actively engage new solutions, understanding the importance of feedback and leadership roles.

Currently finishing his pediatric residency in a community hospital in an underserved area, Ilan has had the opportunity to interact with the core problems and solutions of the Hispanic community, creating the first Medical Advisory Board for the General Consulate of Mexico, improving the education and reach for Hispanic patients.

  • ALMOST A SENIOR…

After all most two years, running from the interns year to a second year, the final part of my Pediatric residency is coming to an end… And end or an INCREDIBLE BEGGINING???? Well, I’m planning to unite both of my professional passions: PEDIATRICS and PUBLIC HEALTH! I understand the first reaction: Are you a Doctor or a MPH??? The medical field has grown and expanded. There is a need of multicultural trained physicians, that have been involved in every step of the Health Care Network (from a little town in Mexico to the Head Quarters of the World Health Organization in Geneva), to provide a comprehensive view of the reality on the ground.

I firmly belive that training multicultural exposed physicians in a comprehensive multilevel approach of education can create alternative and empowering options for the current National and International challeges.
